THE US GRANT is celebrating its 100th Anniversary on October 15, 2010. The hotel is a landmark, an icon, a legend and a symbol. Since opening its doors 1910, travelers and adventurers have found excitement, tranquility, romance and opportunity at THE US GRANT. As part of our Centennial Celebration, we invite you to share your experiences - recent and past memories of the hotel. This is "Your Story" and it is part of the many experiences that make THE US GRANT exceptional.

Just as these stories have shaped the hotel for the past 100 years, our future guests will tell the story of the next 100 years. Our guests are the past, present and future of THE US GRANT. We invite new guests to share dreams about how they hope to experience our iconic hotel. Whether it is a romantic weekend getaway or a grand affair, we want to hear from you.

During our anniversary year of 2010, one special story, past or future, will be chosen by key hotel staff members during the months of February through September. For each of these months, the winner will receive a two-night stay at THE US GRANT, and be eligible for the grand prize package drawing - An Epicurean Adventure for Two in San Diego. The drawing will be announced on October 15, 2010 - the official 100th Anniversary of the hotel. Easter Brunch

Dear US Grant,

Sometimes life moves so quickly one can forget to make plans for the holidays.  I have never been one to go out for a special family meal.  I always like preparing for a family gathering weeks ahead of time.  The menu, linens, shopping and getting the house clean.  This year is different, and time to try something new.

This year for Easter I decided I would take my mom and daughter to a Sunday Brunch.  After looking at many different popular restaurants and hotels menu's my daughter Michaela and I choose the US Grant.   Who could resist wanting to see how the multi million restoration of this historic hotel.  This is after all a symbol of our past in San Diego.  We thought is was a perfect fit for a holiday family gathering.  The menu was exquisite, with a meat station, seafood station, salad/fruit/cheese station, omelet station, desert station, and lets not forget the free flowing mimosas.

You know the saying, "you never get a second chance to make a great first impression"?  For the US Grant your experience starts the minute the valet open your car door.  We were greeted quickly, warmly, and shown where to go.  Once inside you could hear live music that drew you in to set the tone of the day.  We were lucky and sat just outside the Palm Court amongst the original crystal chandeliers where one could only imagine the people who graced this beautiful hotel many years ago.  We took a few sips of our mimosas and went to survey the food.  This by itself was a treat.  Each dish was beautifully displayed, and it was hard to pick where to go first.  It was impossible to eat it all.  The staff was very attentive and never rushed to take your plate.  When you got up to try a new dish you returned to a clean table and your glass was refilled.  The brunch was one of the best we have ever had here in San Diego.

All of these things from the first impression, service, food, and ambience make this a new memorable occasion for my family.  We enjoyed ourselves talking about family travels, friends, school, and got lost in the moment.  I will now recommend the US Grant for every family gathering.  The calendar is already waiting for us.

Thank you to everyone at the US Grant who make this a memorable experience for me.   Hats off to a great organization and staff.

A letter from Barbara

My grandmother, Mathilde Belle Stephens graduated from The Tempe Normal School of Arizona on June 11, 1908. The school is now Arizona State. As early as 1955, when I was 13, I can remember my mom putting Grammy on the train from Pasadena heading to San Diego where Grammy would ONLY stay at The US Grant before heading to Arizona where she gave out diplomas to the college graduates. Grammy only stayed at The US Grant, and did so for years. It's funny, as the only hotel I know about in San Diego is The US Grant.

We now come to San Diego on a regular basis to visit our daughter, and, WILL only stay at The US Grant in memory of Grammy. She always did have the best of choices.
